I have two dogs one is trained beautifully no problems but the youngest ( 1 Yr) will not stop going to the bathroom in the house.

We have tried many different methods to get her trained but all have failed.  We hesitate to scold her too much because she is still skittish.  She has gotten better since we got her in Nov. 08 and she seems to trust us.   There are some days when she goes outside and we praise her and then she will turn around and go on the floor again 30 min. later.  We have tried the potty pads and she chews them in pieces.  We have tried the scent on an item and placed it outside, we have scolded, and we have praised but it still continues to be a big problem.  She was obviously mistreated so not sure what method we can use to get her trained.  I am looking for suggestions because she is a lovely little dog and we just love her so much but cleaning up pee pee a dozen times a day is wearing on me.  Please can anyone help?????????

I don't have fast solutions, but can relate to your problems as I have several that were in a puppy mill for years and just can't put it all together.  Cloth potty pads are not only good for the environment, but are indestructable.  We often get hospital donations of those they need to dispose of and they work great.

An often frowned upon practice is diapering the dog.  I find this allows me to NOT have to yell, but still am able to scoop them up in the act and show where they need to go.  Some of these babies just mature slowly, so this is a way to hang in there with them until they get it all put together.  Walmart has disposable diapers and a reasonable price or you can buy denim panties and put Poise pads in them.

On weekends, the tethering method is an option.  Keep her on a leash so you can watch her ever move - take her out every 2-3 hours, giving reward for when she goes outside - really take advantage of this closeness with lots of recognition and praise.

Love her unconditionally like she does you!!!

I had a young rescue that did this and I fixed the problem by walking him religiously morning and evening (as well as letting them out during the day). I pick a time that I know I can manage.  For me it is around 6 am and around 6pm.  That way I know for sure he is eliminating (both).  For some reason this worked even thought, like you, I was so deligent with letting them out only to have him go in the house later.  Exactly as you described.  The walking is the only thing that has worked and we walk in all kinds of weather except lightening.
