A hard lesson was learned this week - you have to cherish each minute you have as a surprise can always be around the corner.

On Monday, Sassafras went in for a routine spay, but in the process, a grapefruit sized tumor was found on her spleen.  Our options were few and uncertain, so we let her go while she was already at peace and asleep. 

Sassafras found herself homeless on Thanksgiving 2008 with her litter mate Bentley, plus Aramis and Bud.  Foster Mom Ja Peck took them into her home and though the others went to other foster homes and/or were adopted, Sassafras was the anchor of this little foursome, staying with Ja the entire time.  She was a beautiful girl, happy to be warm, full and loved by mama Ja.
