On Friday 1-23-09, we took in Snow, a 4.8 lb white Shih Tzu female who had a huge wound in her abdomen. She had emergency surgery and will hopefully recover well. She is 9 years old and as sweet as can be. We need $350 to cover her medical expenses. If you would like to help click here to go to our donation page. Here's a note from Snow's foster mom.... Hi everyone: Snow is doing so well, even though she wasn't interested in eating first thing this morning. We did manage to have her take both her pills though so we were happy with that - she can eat when she wakes up, and we'll just call it a late lunch. She's walking much better and even went potty on the grass this morning - I was amazed that she decided to walk off the porch. She walks around on her beds too quite a bit - we have a couple of big, flannel covered doggie beds right here in the living room in front of the fireplace and that's her spot during the day, when she's not being held and rocked - she just loves it when you let the top of her head lay against your face or neck - she's so teeny tiny! She eats several times a day - just a little bit of either A/D or some chicken and rice with broth that she can lick up - she likes to lick rather than chew anything but she does take her meds in cheese. Will keep you posted. She's a doll! Jean

Thank you to everyone who has inquired about Snow's progress. We can tell you she is happy and loved in her foster home. She loves to eat and sit out in the sun. Unfortunately, her prognosis is not good. The crater in her tummy was a ruptured mammary tumor and she has many more in its place. Her loving foster mom Jean is tending to all her needs and wishes, but her time is not long.
For those who feel this is sad - it is, but from a fostering standpoint, it is one of the most rewarding duties you can have as a foster parent. To love and care for these sweet babies until it is their time brings peace when you know you were there for them when they really needed a kind hand to lead them through it.
