Whiskey went to his forever home yesterday. We were very close to becoming a "failed" foster with him as he fit so well with our crew and is just an incredible dog with all the depth, loyalty, and awesomeness that comes with being Lhasa. He followed me everywhere and took up the "guardian" position we Lhasa appreciaters are so familiar with. He was a snuggle bug and, we broke our fostering rule, letting him sleep in bed with us every night.
We fostered Whiskey for about a month and quickly became very attached. He is a happy, loving guy. He was great with our daughter and everyone that walked through the door. He and our dogs ran around having fun together.
Whiskey completely stole my heart. The only thing that kept us from sweeping him up and adopting him is our desire to continue fostering. Had we adopted him, we would not be able to foster any more. If our group has to turn away dogs because we don't have foster space, those dogs are likely euthanized (definitely so if we are turning them away when we get the "Mercy" call from shelters) or turned out on the streets. Fostering is crucial and it is important we keep fostering. And, despite my sadness at saying goodbye and letting him go, our family moves forward and keeps saving dogs through fostering. And, on the other side of the story, Whiskey found a great forever home in which both he and his new family are so lucky to have one another. His new family fell in love with him instantly. Whiskey made himself completely at home with them from the moment he entered their house. Here is a picture of Whiskey with Kelly and Ed, his new family. Congrats to Whiskey and to Ed and Kelly!
And, as for our family, we welcome our new foster, Bentley!
